The Effectiveness of Holistic Therapy

Holistic therapy is really a unique form of therapy that focuses on the holistic treatment of the body in totality, i.e., the mind, body, soul, and emotions, to achieve optimum health and well-being. In a nutshell, medication can only be utilized to alleviate symptoms, but holistic treatments aim to stop the recurrence of ailments and ultimately cure the illness.

Holistic therapy is best regarded as a type of complementary medicine. Its practitioners claim that it is more efficient in treating disease than conventional medicine and helps achieve a quick recovery. This holistic treatment approach does not use any harmful or artificial chemicals. Check out here to know more about holistic therapy.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy involves the use of essential oils. The oils are inhaled by the therapist, which helps in relaxation and regaining balance. In addition, the oils are used to soothe and calm the nervous system, including the brain, thus allowing the person to control his/her emotional responses to stressors.

Reflexology

Reflexology, in addition to helping with back pain, may be utilized to treat a wide variety of ailments. A reflexologist essentially has an innate knowledge of where the trigger points are located, which is usually located on the hands and feet.

Reflexology techniques involve stimulating these areas to restore balance in the body and alleviate symptoms. Thus, it effectively manages acute and chronic conditions, as it targets the main cause of the problem rather than the symptoms.

Acupuncture and Acupressure

Acupuncture and acupressure are two other alternative treatments utilized in holistic therapy. Acupressure can help a person to maintain a state of equilibrium by increasing the blood flow to the specific targeted locations in the body. This is believed to help relieve tension in the muscles, thereby easing muscle spasms and back pain.

Reiki

Another method of holistic therapy is Reiki. This method is based on the universal life force that exists within all living things. The practitioner, who receives the energy from the client, channels this positive energy to help alleviate tension and stress in the client.

It is believed that this type of therapy helps to reduce feelings of anger, anxiety and stress. However, the treatment has not been widely accepted by western medicine. It has been criticized for many of its claims.

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is another method of holistic therapy. Massage therapists are trained to locate stress points in the body and stimulate them using certain techniques. This helps to release tension and restores balance to certain symptoms such as headaches and migraines.

Although massage has been widely accepted as a relaxing method of therapy, there is no evidence that it has an effect on the healing of chronic or incurable diseases. Additionally, massaging can increase feelings of well-being, but it cannot change physiological conditions such as heart disease.

Yoga and Meditation

Yoga is one of the most common forms of holistic therapy. Its growing popularity is largely due to its reputation as an ancient practice that aids a healthy lifestyle. Yoga practitioners focus on meditation, breathing exercises and proper posture during yoga classes.

This can help to ease some of the stress that the body experiences. Many people are finding that the physical effects of chronic pain are reduced when they meditate regularly. This promotes a healthier state of mind and general wellness.
