Types of Guitars

Acoustic guitars - Made of wood generally and having the characteristic of hollow bodies which amplify the sound of the strings acoustically.  They have generally six strings and they are very common in the market. Now these strings play a vital role in playing the music. Some acoustic have strings of Steel which is ideal for rock, folk and country songs while those having the nylon strings are better for playing classical or Flamenco guitar. While most of the accounting guitars are made of wood, there are some famous guitars like the national guitar which is made of metal. Electro acoustic guitars- As the name suggest these kind of guitars half electric half acoustic. These are they can be connected to the amplifier and can be changed into electric guitars as well. Semi acoustic guitars- sometimes also known as hollow body electric guitars, they occupy the space between acoustic guitars and electric guitars. They are compact, thin look like the electric guitar but hollow like the acoustic ones. Since they are thin did not produce much sound. Gibson ES-335 one of the notable models of the semi acoustic guitars. The one reason to buy semi acoustic guitars is because of their versatility.

Electric guitars- unless plugged into an amplifier these guitars do not sound much. Therefore if you are buying an electric guitar it is much that you also buy an amplifier.

Bass Guitars- they were previously huge and generally seen in the orchestras but thanks to Fender which eventually came up with a model that was actually portable.

Bass guitars have solid bodies and both acoustic and semi- acoustic basses are available.

Last but not the least, the Cousins of guitar. It is unknown to many that guitar is a descendant of lute.

The Mandolin- looks like the violin but strummed like guitars rater than played with a bow like the violin.

The Banjo – made of 5 strings, they are all treble with no bass at all. They are popular while playing the folk music or country songs.
